Is accomplished by means of a modern RISC microprocessor
with an extremely high degree of accuracy.
On the basis of a manufactures standard fuel map the intelligently
programmed management of the diesel performance chip tuning powerbox
control unit sends the modified data to the injection pump, which then
meters the exact diesel quantity for extra performance.

Digital Benefits
· Easy to install. No adjustments necessary.
· Always an optimum calculated increase of the diesel fuel injection
quantity together with the function of the factory set fuel injection map.
· Optimum utilisation of the engines reserve capacity from the manufacturer
(15 - 25 % power and torque increase) with minimum smoke emission and minimum
engine stress.
Digital Drawbacks
· None known |

Is accomplished, as a rule, via a manually adjustable
1, 2 or 3 potentiometers, primitively designed minimal electronics
in a plastic box.
These devices have no engine or vehicle specific fuel
map, but are equipped only with a basic electronics that manipulates
the control signals sent to the injection pump.
1 or 2 potentiometers are used to adjust the power increase
in the lower and/or upper speed range the third potentiometer is used to
influence the overall setting and the smoke emission

Analogue Benefits
· None known
Analogue Drawbacks
· Labour intensive and time consuming, as the adjustment must be
carried out while driving. Manual and therefore inaccurate adjustment.
· Too high an injection quantity in certain
sub ranges (heavy acceleration) leading to increased fuel consumption
and smoke emission and then to thermal engine damage.
· Almost always requires extensive readjustment.

The graph (highly simplified) illustrates the difference
between Analogue and Digital diesel tuning.
· The green area over the standard fuel map represents
the optimised range of the diesel performance chip tuning powerbox
control unit
· The red area represents the manually and hence inaccurately adjusted
range of the analogue additional box.
The graph clearly shows the superiority of the digital
diesel performance chip tuning powerbox unit over the analogue
diesel boxes and their much higher efficiency due to the fact they do
not stress the engine and therefore do not reduce the lifetime of the
engine.
Analogue diesel boxes cannot be optimally adjusted throughout
the total range. They are usually adjusted too rich in sub ranges. The
engines consume too much fuel and emit un-burnt diesel resulting in large
clouds of black smoke while accelerating.
